                                          How to get there

Fourteen graphic villages drowned in the green in combination with the abundance of Byzantine monuments constitute the ideal destination for each friend of nature, history, folklore, sports. It is the region that literally you can find everything. Mountain and sea in their ideal form and combination.

The access to the villages is easy and fast especially if you come from Athens. Crossing the bridge and towards Northern Evia right after the central square of Artakis you turn right. After you cross Vatontas you can see uphill the imposing mount of Dyrfis.

A)    ROUTE A - Turning right, you will get to  Pissonas, with the medieval tower of Mostra and the abundance of surface Neolithic (New Stone Age) discoveries.

Follow the road and turn left on the second crossroad and you will reach  the Purnos, an important medieval centre of region, and then turn right to  Mistros and Mavropoulo, villages with rich traditional, folklore and farming activities, between the two mountains of Mavrovouni and Olympus. If you turn right, you will reach the foot of Mount Olympus and in Theologos you will find the important temple of Virgin Mary.

 B)     ROUTE B – Drive straight ahead and you will reach Kathenoi and the Abbey of Erion. Cross the village turning left and you will reach Paliouras, the gorge of Agalis and Saint Athanassios. At the end of your route you will find the villages of Glifadas with the beaches.

 C)    ROUTE C - From  Kathenoi and our to Dirfys turning right you will find Amfithea  with the towers , and if you turn left you will find Loutsa with the temple of Saint Paraskevi. When you reach Kato Steni the road turning right will  lead you to Vuni with the abundance of Byzantine monuments. The second road turning right will lead you to the mountainous village of Kabia with the trouts , the ancient aqueduct and the cavernal church of Saint Kiriaki. From Kabia you can have a beautifull view of old settlement Skounteri with it’s Tower.

 D)    ROUTE D - Crossing the taverns and  cafeterias of Ano Steni you will find one of the most beautiful routes of Greece .

On the top is the mountaineering shelter and going downhill you will find Stropones and Lamari. At  the end of your way the Byzantine church of Hiliadou and the famous beach.

Another pleasant route that can bring you here is also the ferry of  Oropos – Eretria . From  Eretria takie the central road to  Amarinthos turning left and cross  the settlement of Geronta to reach the Theologian.

   Itineraries and useful telephones

You will come to Chalcis via the new bridge and  you will follow the road to Artakis following the big signs. At some point a relative sighn indicates the route to Steni turning right. You will be there after 27 km. An  alternate way is to take the train (Tel. 210-5240601) or the regional bus ( KTEL )(Tel. 210-8317153) for Chalcis. The itinerary is very often. As soon as you will reach in Chalcis, you will go in the station of regional buses (KTEL Evia) (Tel. 22210-22640) and you will take bus to Steni.
